Object Type
As part of a larger project on national character, José Ney
focused on religion in Cuba. The island’s history as a Spanish colony and site
of the Atlantic slave trade has infused Cuban culture with foreign elements
from Catholicism to African spirituality. A biblical tableau demonstrates how
Catholic objects of worship pervade contemporary Cuban life.
