DescriptionNew York silversmith John Chandler Moore worked as a partner with others and sold his work through various retailers until 1851, when he entered into an exclusive contract with Tiffany and Company. His son Edward would go on to have an illustrious career as the chief designer for Tiffany and Company.
ProvenanceCommodore Isaac Hull (1773–1843); inherited by his nieces Sarah Hull (Mrs. Phillip Galpin, 1817–1904) and Mary Augusta Hull (Mrs. Frederic Augustus Platt, 1813–1890); inherited by the latter’s son Dr. Isaac Hull Platt (1853–1912); inherited by his widow, Emma Haviland Platt; inherited by her son Philip G. Platt; inherited by his widow Mary M. Platt, until 1971; private collection; [Hirschl & Adler Galleries, New York]; purchased by MFAH, 1994.
