DescriptionThe Taunton, Massachusetts, firm of Reed and Barton had its roots in an earlier company, Babbitt and Crossman, who specialized in producing goods made of Britannia metal, an alloy closely related to pewter. The firm of Reed and Barton would later produce large quantities of electroplated wares using such allows as the base. By the late nineteenth century, the firm was producing sterling silver goods.
