DescriptionBorn in 1731 in Massachusetts, Robert Rogers gained notoriety during the French and Indian War (1754–1763) as the leader of Rogers’ Rangers, a unit that fought successfully under difficult conditions and behind enemy lines. Native Americans, here associated with Rogers and his command, were valued as allies by both British and French forces. Without an image of Rogers on which to base the print, the artist created a fictitious portrait.
