Object Type
E. “Buzz” Aldrin was the second man on the moon. This photograph, taken by his
fellow astronaut Neil A. Armstrong, depicts Aldrin standing at the Eagle
landing site on the Sea of Tranquility. Because he held the camera throughout
the mission, no full shots of Armstrong on the moon exist, although his image
has been preserved in the form of a reflection on the visor of Aldrin’s helmet.
Provenance[Robert Mann Gallery, New York]; purchased by MFAH, 1993.
