An urn-shaped columnar support and stringing divulges this stand’s classical inspiration, while the drawer, spanning the width of the top and opening front and back, bespeaks its Connecticut Valley origin. The addition of an attached rim is a practical feature that corresponds to earlier tea tables.

Technical notes: Black cherry, unidentified inlay; eastern white pine (drawer bottom and sides), cherry. The D-shaped bracket supporting the top is beautifully finished with chamfered ends. The drawer evinces the same workmanship, its bottom flush with the sides. Penciled on the underside of the top is: “Noah Callender’s Stand.”
