In 1980 Dorothy Hood
wrote, “In times of the incredulous and the agnostic, the ultimate symbol for
art is the symbol of the unmeasurable, the Void. . . . This silent space of the mind’s eye is
related to the nonverbal space of painting [and] in the end, within the Void,
is true memory.” Sky Locus, with its deep blue-black field, evokes “this
silent space of the mind’s eye.” In contrast, the two vibrant areas of painterly
color that bracket the composition attest to the artist’s touch and vivid presence
in her work.
