ProvenanceCommissioned by Cosimo II de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany (1590-1621); Gifted by Cosimo II to Cardinal Odoardo Farnese (1573-1626), October 1620; By inheritance to the Cardinal's nephew, Odoardo I Farnese Duke of Parma and Piacenza (1612-1646), likely the table at Palazzo Farnese, Rome, listed in the Primo Camerino at Palazzetto Parnese, in the 1644 inventory; By descent to his son, Ranuccio II Farnese, Duke of Parma and Piacenza (1630-1694); Possibly de-accessioned when the palazzetto was dismantled in 1667 or later in 1732, when destroyed; Acquired by a member of the Greville Family, of Warwick Castle, first clearly described in the 1800 inventory; Thence by descent in the family, at Warwick Castle, until sold by Charles Greville, 7th Earl of Warwick (1911-1984); [his sale, at Christie's London, 30th May 1968, lot 90]; Private collection, France, acquired at the above sale; Thence by descent to the present owner; [Sotheby's London, private sale, 2026]; purchased by MFAH, 2026.
