ProvenanceLaurance S. Rockefeller, New York (1910-2004) [1]; Guillaume de Toulouse-Lautrec, Switzerland (Lugt 3868, lower right on linen support) [2]; Private collection, Switzerland; [Agnew’s, Belgium, 2026]; purchased by MFAH, 2026.

[1] Laurance S. Rockefeller (1910–2004) was a prominent American venture capitalist, conservationist, and art collector who, along with his wife Mary, curated a diverse, highly personal collection often highlighted in his philanthropic projects. His collection included varied pieces, including works exhibited in National Park Service exhibitions. A significant 2005 auction at Sotheby’s New York of his collection raised over $12 million, with proceeds benefiting his charitable fund.

[2] Count Guillaume de Toulouse-Lautrec was born in Rouen in 1959. He is sone of Count Raymond de Toulouse-Lautrec (1900–2004) and a distant nephew of the artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864–1901). His grandfather, Count B. de Toulouse-Lautrec-Montfa, was a cousin of the artist. Guillaume de Toulouse-Lautrec earned his degrees from the University of Lausanne. After holding positions for over twenty-five years at Citibank N.A., J.P. Morgan, and Morgan Stanley, he is currently a Managing Partner at the firm De Pury, Pictet, Turrettini & Cie S.A. in Geneva and is a Fellow of the Académie des Jeux floraux in Toulouse. Guillaume de Toulouse-Lautrec collects drawings—of which he owns approximately 200 sheets—as well as lithographs (about 350) and autograph letters by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. While some of these works came to him through inheritance, the majority of the sheets were acquired by the collector himself. His interest in the artist led him to write the preface for Toulouse-Lautrec en scene by Jean-Paul Morel (Lausanne, 2003). In 2002, the collector commissioned the creation of a collector's mark incorporating his initials. This mark has notably been identified on a print by Armand Seguin (sale, London, Sotheby’s, October 2, 2008, Lot 165).
