He returned to Chicago in 1967, promoted to his current // position of managing editor, with his major assignments including the // ceremony in Oslo, Norway, at which Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was awarded // the Nobel Peace Prize. Mr. Sanders was editor of THE EBONY SUCCESS LIBRARY. // A frequent lecturer on college campuses and overseas on behalf of the U.S. // State Department, Mr. Sanders has been the guest of numerous African and // Middleastern [sic] governments. The Texas native was graduated from The Cleveland // Institute of Music with a Bachelor of Music (organ) and Western Reserve // concert organist before beginning his journalism career at the Cleveland // Call & Post Newspaper as feature writer, then stat editor, before coming // to EBONY. Mr. Sanders great interest in civil rights, health care problems // of the poor, and excellence in Black youth is the basis for his membership // in a number of organizations, including the NAACP (he is a Life Member) // where he serves as co-chairman with Bill Cosby of the Entertainment Committee // of the NAACP’s Life Membership Division.
