Landscape photographer Franco Fontana broke with tradition by creating his works in color and by reducing geographical features before his lens to abstract geometric planes. At a time when other photographers clung to the sanctity of perfectly exposed and legible black-and-white landscapes, Fontana created colorful, complex visual puzzles. “Photography should not reproduce the visible,” he notes. “It should make the invisible visible.”
