Description

Tomas van Houtryve explores issues of borders, memory, surveillance, and identity by using his imagery to draw out the unseen and make visible the relationships between individuals and structures of societal control and demarcation. Through his video work, Houtryve has examined these issues in the context of the border between Mexico and the United States, the site of more than a century of ongoing geographic, social, and political conflict and division. Despite humanity’s ongoing attempts to control the landscape and its populations, natural forces persist, adapt, and are ultimately undeterred by human constructions.
