Description

Grete Stern produced one of her most dynamic series, Sueños (Dreams) for the Argentine women’s magazine Idilio. Stern’s photographic constructions served as illustrations for the magazine’s regular column entitled “Psychoanalysis Will Help You.” Readers were invited to send in descriptions of their dreams for analysis. Using those dreams as a foundation, Stern created provocative, surreal, and symbolically charged photomontages. Stern’s Sueños works are not only visually impressive but also reflective of the changing realities for Argentine women in an era marked by political and social upheaval.
