ProvenanceCharlotte Eleanor Murray Threipland (1871–1958), born Wyndham Lewis, daughter of William Wyndham Lewis (1827–1871) of Heath, Cardiff, South Wales―who circa 1850 acquired his grandfather's estate New House, Llanishen, Cardiff―and his second wife Maud Williams (1844–1930) of Aberpergwm House, Glynneath, Wales, where her family owned important coal mines [1]; by descent, her grandson Andrew M. Threipland (born 1942), son of Major Patrick Wyndham Murray Threipland (1904–1957) and his second wife Leslie McNair Scott; [offered at auction by Andrew M. Threiplank, Christie’s, London, July 2, 1976, lot 57 (with its pendant, lot 58), the present painting was withdrawn and remained with Andrew M. Threipland at Fingask Castle until sold by him to a private collector in 2015]; [Bv Michel Ceuterick, Asper, Belgium]; purchased by the Sarah Campbell Blaffer Foundation, 2023.

[1] Charlotte Eleanor most likely inherited the pair of paintings to which the present panel belongs from one of her parents’ estates. She married in 1899 Colonel William Murray Threipland (1866–1942) of Fingask Castle, Perthshire, Scotland.
