ProvenanceThe artist, 1896; Auguste Clot (1858-1936), Paris, 1896-1936; estate of August Clot; [Arsène Bonafous-Murat, Paris, as of 2002]; purchased by Nicholas W. Lott, Bath, UK (1949-2019), 2002-2019; [Larkhall Fine Art, Bath, UK, 2019-2023]; [Gerrish Fine Art, London, 2023]; purchased by MFAH, 2023.

Print dealer Arsène Bonafous-Murat worked for Paul Paul Prouté from late 1963 through June 1977, then opened his own Paris shop at 15 rue de l'Echaudé in March 1978. He eventually expanded his business to include an adjacent building in Paris and a second outlet in southwest France at Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val. After his death in 2011, his wife Anne assumed leadership of the firm.

Nicholas William Lott began his career in the arts as the partner of dealer Hilary Gerrish, helping their London gallery to flourish throughout the 1970s. Lott exited the partnership in the 1980s to begin working independently, and after several years spent living in the United States he returned to England, settling in Bath and opening Larkhall Fine Art. He established a reputation as a seller of 19th- and 20th-century prints and drawings. Since Lott’s death in 2019, his daughter Lauren has run Larkhall Fine Art.
