Description

Emphasizing lush textures and the interplay of solid forms with ethereal light and shadow, this striking architectural abstraction by Kati Horna depicts the interior of a tower designed by Mathias Goeritz at the Auto-Mex Factory, Mexico’s first large-scale car manufacturing plant and a symbol of economic and political progress. Horna’s more straightforward exterior views of the factory complex circulated in contemporary publications, but in this picture, Horna appears more intent on creating her own boldly Modernist image than in documenting Goeritz’s architecture.
