John Bulmer’s photographs depict students at King’s College, Cambridge, as they daringly climb campus buildings—an activity dating back to the 19th century and carried out under cover of night to avoid disapproving college administrators. Bulmer took these photographs while he was a student at King’s College and participating in this clandestine activity, but he was expelled after the images were published in The Sunday Times and later featured in Life magazine. Despite his expulsion, Bulmer went on to a celebrated career as a photojournalist, particularly remembered for his daring coverage of the social upheaval of the 1960s.
