David Benjamin Sherry uses historic photographic techniques to explore contemporary perspectives on queer identity and the environment. He relies on a large-format camera, which enables him to capture an incredible amount of detail in his subjects. However, despite the camera’s fidelity, Sherry pushes the color film to an extreme during processing, resulting in highly saturated tones. In this case, the vivid cyan abstracts the wave formations at Capital Reef, Utah, where the water has become increasing acidified from rising carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere.
