(1) Solicitor Peter Gellatly spent the majority of his life in the village of Loughton in Essex, only residing in London during his final fifteen years. He harbored a lifelong interest in fine art, and his collection of prints was formed principally of acquisitions made in London, although he also bought elsewhere on the European continent. His collection, which included works by Dürer, Rembrandt, and Italian and German printmakers of the 15th and 16th centuries, was dispersed in an important sale held between May 13 and 18 of 1911 in Stuttgart, Germany.
