For more than four decades, Marilyn Minter has explored the intersection of the glamorous and the grotesque through a feminist lens in photography, painting, and video. Her embrace of the visual language of both the fashion and porn industries and her unabashed depiction of the female body were controversial in the 1980s and remain intentionally unsettling—simultaneously seductive and repulsive. Like a glamorous fashion shoot gone astray, this uncomfortably close-up view of an open mouth dripping liquid gold draws one in and then pushes back.
