Like Pablo Picasso’s Woman with Outstretched Arms, also in the museum's collection, this painting portrays Jacqueline Roque, who became the artist’s companion and muse in 1954, and his wife in 1961. These are just two examples of the many works which document Picasso’s fascination with the creative process and the constant metamorphosis of Roque’s dramatic features through paintings, sculptures, and works on paper that span the final two decades of Picasso’s career.
