Filled with heart-wrenching tenderness and laced with the kind of anxiety only born of deep love, Rashod Taylor’s Little Black Boy series is a powerful record of his son’s childhood. Taylor, an editorial photographer for National Geographic, started photographing his son, LJ, the day he was born. But amid the civil unrest of 2020 and in response to the Black lives lost, Taylor’s own worries about his son grew. “He can’t live a carefree childhood as he deserves; there is a weight that comes with his blackness, a weight that he is not ready to bear,” the artist writes.
