[1] Virginia Zabrinskie built her personal collection during her career as a gallerist that spanned more than five decades. After acquiring her New York gallery in 1954, at the age of 26, Zabrinskie inherited a roster of young artists including Pat Adams, Clinton Hill and Lester Johnson. She was mentored by the artist, critic, and modern art promoter Walter Pack while she was a college student; through him, she met Marcel Duchamp, Edward Hopper and other New York artists. Pach had been instrumental in assisting the artist Arthur B. Davies, president of the landmark 1913 International Exhibition of Modern Art also called the Armory Show, as well as the founder Walt Kuhn, bringing together leading contemporary European and American artists for the show. This influenced the way Zabriskie worked on groundbreaking exhibitions and her vision of modern art.
