For his series Re-construction, Alejandro González re-created and photographed scenes of life in Cuba and presented them as if they documented actual historic moments. Often, however, González presented an alternate reality that could have existed but did not. November 9th, 1989, for example, is a staged scene with a scouted location, a posed subject, and a mon- taged image on the television screen. “On this day, the Berlin Wall fell,” he wrote, “and, according to this image, television gave details of that important fact. In actuality, it was never broadcast by Cuban television.”
