This photograph represents a series by the artist Jacinda Russell in which she documented the state of books received via interlibrary loan. Upon starting the project, the artist realized that there was a certain “censoring” of cover images that depicted nudity. This photograph, depicting the same copy of Imogen Cunningham: A Portrait, shows the copy as it was received on the left and how it was returned on the right. Playing with notions of collaboration (aware and unaware participant librarians), vandalism, and censorship, Russell exposes with wit how individuals react to photographic images and publications.
