DescriptionAlthough sometimes associated with the Shropshire town of Jackfield, this dark-bodied, black-glazed ware was made by potters in other places, including Staffordshire. It was most popular in the 1750s and 1760s. These wares often featured applied molded, or “sprigged,” decoration as well gilded decoration.
Provenance[Ginsburg & Levy, New York]; purchased by Miss Ima Hogg, June 8, 1956; given to MFAH, by 1966.
