DescriptionAs fraught as the topics of migration, family separation, and
deportation have been in recent years, authorities have purposely prevented
honest evaluation and discussion by limiting access to detention facilities and
detainees. Knowing the power of photography, prison officials have barred the
press and even forbidden visiting lawmakers to use their cell phone cameras.
Although the airspace directly above and immediately surrounding prisons is
designated as a “no-fly zone,” David Taylor uses drones to navigate the
perimeter in publicly accessible, unrestricted airspace to make visible—even
from a distance— the foreboding immensity of the for-profit “prison industrial
complex.”
