Nicolas Party has adopted a purposefully naïve style to represent dreamlike worlds that mirror contemporary concerns and reflect upon the history of art. Landscape seems to radiate heat, from the red solar disc to the flatly silhouetted trees that glow like lanterns. Party commented: “Trees have a beautiful symbolic connection to time and memory, one of many reasons why they are such a fertile subject in painting. . . . They are one of the most important elements in human culture. Today, they are also one of the primary reminders of our fears and anxieties for the future.”
