DescriptionWhile some might call it “vernacular,” Barbara Levine and Paige Ramey have nicknamed their collection “Photo Mania,” an epithet that better conveys the passion with which they assembled it over thirty years and the joy that viewers find in the material. With various interwoven themes—including Gun Culture, LGBTQ, African American Life, Women Only, and Science and Industry—each including examples of material rarely found elsewhere, the collection tells the unique and complicated story of photography’s history, encompassing a broad range of objects, demonstrating the exchange between high and low art, and speaking to a shared photo mania.
