(1) The traditional title, A Bend on a River, links this watercolor to its previous owner, James Worthington, who was a passionate collector of watercolors from northern England. Many works from his collection were bequeathed to the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester.
(2) A.G. Turner was a Liverpool-born shipping magnet, who also owned Turner’s iconic view of Leeds (Yale Center for British Art, New Haven). Its traditional title was A Bend on a River.
