Description

Likely created as an advertisement, this tableau depicts all the services available at a turn-of-the-century photographic studio. Throughout the composition, numerous portraits are on display. Large prints are affixed to the walls, and small cartes-de-visite are displayed in an upright grid on the floor in the center of the room. Four different painted backdrops are visible in the background, demonstrating the studio’s ability to personalize portraits. On the left side of this photograph, a man works at a retouching desk while glass negatives dry on two separate racks. On the right, a man appears to be diligently retouching prints.
