DescriptionFor over twenty years, the photographer Nancy Katz photographed various artists, musicians, composers, dancers, and intellectuals she admired. These pictures were entirely private, never published or exhibited, yet the works are impressive in their artistic vision. This portrait of famed sculptor Martin Puryear, presents the artist in his studio with piles of lumber around him. The rigid frames surrounding him echo the artist’s minimal sculptures. Made utilizing traditional craft techniques, Puryear’s works are elegant and playful translations of everyday objects with reference to their symbolic significance.
