1 Born in Paris, Paul Prouté is well known in the world of collectors and as the eldest son of the print dealer Victor Prouté, who began his print trade in 1895, when he transferred his shop to Rue de Seine, Paris. Paul became a collaborator with his father in the family business. In 1918 at the death of his father, Paul established his own shop and built his stock of prints. The mark, affixed only to the pieces of the personal collection, not those of the stock, is usually on the back (Fig. 4).
