DescriptionJames
Casebere constructs and photographs tabletop models made from paper, cardboard,
Styrofoam, and other materials. Carefully staged and lit to evoke deep-seated
memories and emotions, his works blur the line between reality and fabrication.
In this image, the first of his series Life Story, Casebere has built
and photographed a colonialstyle suburban house. Reminiscent of a child’s
drawing, complete with garage, picture window, and lawnmower, the construction
is an inoffensive, generic, and nostalgic representation of the artist’s own
beginnings.
