DescriptionThe Rauenstein Porcelain Manufactory was a founded by three members of the Greiner family: Johann Georg, Johann Friedrich, and Christian Daniel Siegmund—in Thuringia. This region in southeastern Germany is noted for its ceramic production. In 1760, fifty years after the creation of porcelain at Meissen, it became feasible to produce hard-paste porcelain in Thuringia. These teacups and sauces feature portraits of three American presidents: James K. Polk, Zachary Taylor, and Andrew Jackson.

Provenance[Ginsburg & Levy, New York]; donated to Halcyon Foundation Auction; purchased by Miss Ima Hogg, 1969; given to MFAH, 1969.
