In these innovative wood constructions, Darié challenges the
rigidity of the grid by extending form and color beyond the frame. The artist uses
syncopated rhythms of squares and lines in primary colors, referencing Piet
Mondrian, to suggest movement across the work’s surface. Darié also includes physically
protruding wooden planes while superimposing circles and triangles onto the
orthogonal structure. These strategies create virtual depth and further push
the composition into the viewer’s space.
ProvenanceThe artist; Serafina Nuñez Ortiz; [Ignacio Pedronzo, Sammer Gallery, Miami, 2017]; purchased by MFAH, 2018.
