Loewy and Pierre Henri Puiseux’s Atlas
Photographique de la Lune (Photographic Atlas of the Moon) is among the
19th century’s most ambitious photographic projects. Loewy and Puiseux’s atlas
took some 14 years of observation and more than 6,000 negatives to complete.
The 70 photogravure plates are impressive for their scale and beauty, and they
remained the most detailed mapping of the moon until the second half of the
20th century.
