DescriptionEnoch Wood has been called the "Father of English Pottery." His American themes number close to one hundred, surpassing the output of any of his competitors. His sauce tureen offered diners a mini-excursion through the landscape north of New York City. The lid is entitled "Hudson River View," the undertray "Pass in the Catskill Mountains" and the tureen's body depicts "Passaic Falls, State of New Jersey." These views are based on drawings by the New York artist Alexander Robertson (1772–1841), who taught at the Columbian Academy of Painting and was a regular exhibitor at the American Academy.
