DescriptionNina
Katchadourian’s series Sorted Books exposes the character of book
collections through improvisational arrangements. She created Indian History
for Young Folks
from volumes in the M. G. Sawyer Collection of Decorative
Bindings at the Delaware Art Museum: “I noticed a curious surge in late
19th-century fiction romanticizing Native Americans and despaired when I
realized how this coincided with their violent displacement and decimation.” Katchadourian
questions what hidden stories collected possessions might reveal.
