DescriptionThis unusual vessel, with two handles and a long, curving spout served syllabub, a cold dessert delicacy popular in the 1600s and 1700s. Most recipes combined wine, sugar, citrus juice, and cream that were whipped together. After the mixture had time to rest, the frothy cream would separate and rise to the top of the alcoholic liquid, which could be drunk through the spout, and the cream eaten with a spoon.
