DescriptionThe sewing table made by William Otto Glosnop (B.2017.1) is significant for a number of reasons, including that it is one of a very small number of fully documented pieces of early Texas furniture. This certificate, given by the Capital State Fair Association in 1877, constitutes that documentation, proclaiming Glosnop’s entry to be the  “Best Center Table–Mosaic Work–Manufactured in Texas of Texas Wood.”
Provenance[John Sauls, Tyler, Texas]; purchased by William J. Hill (1934–2018), Houston; given to MFAH, 2017.
