DescriptionEugene Von Bruenchenhein was an American self-taught artist from Milwaukee who worked in a variety of media. He set up a darkroom in his bathroom in the early 1940s and began photographing his wife, Marie, who posed nude or in stylish, often revealing costumes. Von Bruenchenhein transformed their home into a studio full of exotic stages on which Marie played the role of the glamour girl, frequently situated before backdrops with floral motifs. Numbering in the thousands, these photographs reveal the intimate, erotically charged relationship between husband and wife, artist and muse.
