DescriptionThe glass shafts of these candlesticks were made by encasing clear glass in layers of red glass before they were blown and shaped in a mold. They were decorated by cutting through the red to reveal the clear glass underneath. The glass is similar in style to that produced by the Boston and Sandwich Glass Company, and the candlesticks were most likely assembled by the H. N. Hooper Company of Boston. Their metal fittings, coated with a colored lacquer intended to imitate gold, resemble items from that manufacturer’s trade catalogue.
