Object Type
DescriptionIn 18th-century colonial America and into the early 19th century, wood was the chosen heat source for households. Fireplace equipment was essential to Americans to handle the burning logs. Being a practical necessity, jamb hooks were fastened on each side of the fireplace so that the fire tools could be leaned against them while the bottom ends rested on the hearth away from the fierce heat from an open log fire.
ProvenanceBarbara Conway Bailey, Houston; given to MFAH, 2010.
