DescriptionSilversmith William Bogert probably began his career in Albany, New York, in the late 1830s and ‘40s. He worked for a time in New York City with William Forbes before entering another partnership in Newburgh, New York. While in Newburgh, he began producing silver for Ball, Black, and Company. Returning to New York City in 1866, Bogert’s output was soon sold exclusively through Tiffany and Company. Much, like this child’s set, was in a figural style.
ProvenanceWilliam J. Hill (1934–2018), Houston; given to MFAH, 2003.
