PhotographyObject Type
the hazy backdrop of the Queensboro Bridge, three young men dive together into
the East River. Capturing each man at a different moment in their dives, Arthur
Leipzig’s perfectly timed photograph almost appears as though it could be a
motion study, such as Étienne Jules Marey’s galloping horse on display on the
opposite wall of this gallery. Leipzig, like the majority of League
photographers and very unlike Marey, went in search of spontaneous subjects on
city streets rather than photographing in a controlled environment.
