DescriptionÁdám Magyar has a long-standing interest in “in-between times,” capturing people moving about the urban environment. In his Urban Flow series, Magyar captures fleeting moments in time that neither the human eye nor a conventional camera can see, stretching milliseconds into minutes and freezing time with a seemingly impossible resolution. To capture the ceaseless procession of pedestrians, he uses a homemade slit camera (like those used to determine photo finishes at racetracks and sporting events) that creates long, narrow images by combining thousands of sequential, pixel-wide scanned slices into a single image. The people and vehicles at the far right of the image passed the sensor a few minutes before those on the far left.
