DescriptionBetty
Parsons was once referred to as “the den mother of Abstract Expressionism.” The
photographer Jon Naar celebrated her support of the avant-garde by framing her
within a modern sculpture. The sculptural form celebrates the abstract art she
loved and recalls a mandorla—an ovular shape seen in religious art that
encloses saintly figures.

ProvenanceThe artist; Clinton T. Willour, Houston; given to MFAH, 2015.
