Glittering and jewel-like, daguerreotype portraits quickly
replaced cameo and painted portrait miniatures in late 19th-century jewelry.
With such a brooch, locket, or pendant, one could hold a lifelike image of a
beloved husband, wife, parent, or child close to the heart.
