DescriptionLike pre-World War II Modernists, particularly fellow Hungarian László Moholy-Nagy, Dóra Maurer works in multiple media—photography, film, graphic design, performance, and installations. Her works are both playful and informed by scientific observations, including mathematical and conceptual processes as well as theories about color and perception. For each of the images in her triptych Hidden Structures I–III, Maurer folded a piece of photographic paper in multiple ways, with each crease creating the range of geometric shapes that animate the paper. She also drew on various sections with graphite and then exposed the paper to light. In development, the graphite washed away. The resulting images become one document of various states of each sheet of paper.
